Ami looks angry.

This is model Ami, from a 3-hour session at (the aforementioned Joanne Mehl's) Brush & Palette. We will have Ami back next week, and hopefully won't be snowed out for it. She is a gorgeous woman of Ukranian descent, dressed as a gypsy. You may not get any of that out of the painting, I'm never trying to do a portrait, although I am happy if there is some likeness. What I see here, after a few days of not looking, (and then looking again), is an expression of irritation and distrust. I think I'll leave off with her looking just that way. I painted her on "inauguration day." (Of what needs not be spoken here, I have other venues for that.)

Jorge

Joanne Mehl orchestrates model sessions at the Brush & Palette, and has begun again in the new year with model Jorge. We got snowed out of the 2nd session, but with this one, I wouldn't have carried the painting much further, anyway. I would have liked to do another painting still, tho'.... to do a full figure pose. It may still happen.

Jesus of Cuba

Ha! I like that riff on Lawrence of Arabia! This is Jesus of Cuba, our wonderful, knowledgeable and compassionate tour guide for the November 2016 trip to Cuba. I was a bit too exacting in the underpainting, and now I don't want to go into it with color. I'm not sure I'd have much to add to the image in terms of portraying the essence of him. I quite like this stage. We'll see as time goes on.

Life's Illusions

I did a lot of little paintings at the beginning of January (1-10), some successful, some not. The Strada Easel company was the impetus for them, but I knew I couldn't stick to it and do some of my other actual work. Be that as it may, here is my favorite of the ten, and perhaps I will post some others later. A place saver, so to speak.
