Even Cowgirls............

Look what rode into town. Ka-peeww! Ka-peeww! (how do you spell that 6-shooter sound?!) Well, Maddy was an excellent model, I hope she has a return engagement in Janet's basement. Fun evening. As always, can't see what colors I'm using, it's pretty dark in there. But now that I have my palette squoze out in advance (same colors in the same place), I made some pretty good guesses. Except the umber on her face--thought that was burnt sienna. Oh well, I'm happy that I reined in my color choices. Yee-haw!

PS - I'm sure I don't need to mention the irony of chickening out on doing her hands, given that I'd just come from The Hands session at Hipbone!!!

A Show of Hands

Half-day at Hipbone, scrutinizing hands, drawing them, and looking at surprising examples of some masters who had a tough time with them too! These are a few of my first efforts. More scanning later. Maybe.

Kat's daughter

I disliked earlier incarnations of this so much that they have been removed from the blog! This is the latest version, and in spite of not intending to work on it further (saying so every day for several days now).... I will finish it after all! I'm thinking of their farm, as I invent a different context from the original. Blueberries would be more appropriate, but they're too tiny. So apples it is.

Painting Erin (who painted me)

The garage is cleared out sufficiently to resume using it as a studio. Erin came over today, and we posed for each other, alternating 1/2 hr at a time. So this is an hour's worth, and I may wait 'til she comes back to further it. Or I may play with some color notes.... but I am happy with the ünder painting".

Gladstone gas - a reprise

This is a second and larger start, taking a slightly different angle this time. Plein air, I only got the drawing down. Now, at home, I've started to play with the color notes. I'd better wait and go back there on the next sunny day. No point in rushing it--got plenty else to work on.

Deia

Deia is on Majorca (Spain), and I believe that is the town where Chopin and George Sands holed up and were miserable for not being accepted by the locals. But what a magnificent place to be miserable in. The views! I'll have to pick one of those and paint it too. But for now, this is the shopping corridor in Deia--of course painting from a photo--when was I there?, three years ago? Four? Taking a break to ponder the color scheme, before I put in all the interlocking tree branches.

The Princess

Started this at Kat's Friday, and continued it at home. I've changed the window out twice, killed the sunset outside, moved the sill down, changed the chair, changed the color of the chair, painted the chair out and put in a throne. Changed it to Pope Innocent X's throne. Changed the gold hue, changed the age of the sitter...... I could go on. And did go on... and on and on for five days. Ridiculous. But I learned a lot!
