Torrit Self Portrait

I got home around noon, enthused from meeting many plein air painters at a breakfast this morning. [An aside: lovely meeting all of you, if any stop by this blog!] So. Finally. Back in the studio after much too long. I have wanted to paint this portrait of myself for a long time, as well as do it in Torrit Grey for the Gamblin contest. Oh, also I wanted to paint a whole painting with a great big brush. So I did all of that with this portrait which is of my self but I can't call it a self portrait because Michael Holm [Hi Mike!]shot it, oh...... a few decades ago! This doesn't do his photography justice, but it's a good study for what may be the actual painting. I think I'll leave this one as is. Oh, hm... I might still add the hat's net that covers the top half of my face.

Another from Janet's basement

7/17/11 - [First, a bad joke: It's unfortunate that Janet's name isn't Filene! haha]
Well, I hadn't posted this from a month ago, so I've put a date on this entry, for posterity. I guess I'll call these "the basement series" (others are Jadene and Girl with Ruffly Bow in Curly Do"). Nancy wore a gold lame, rhinestone-studded Elvis jacket, which was a bit intimidating to consider painting. (I'll have to do a study of that another time!) I like the spontaneity, so may just leave it this way.
